Journey Through Time
Journey Through Time: The Cultural Significance of the Canoe Journey Reawakening is a book/project H.M. Jones initiated in order to honor the significance of the canoe journey to the Coast Salish people. H.M. Jones is a puller for the Port Gamble S'Klallam Canoe Family, a committee member for the Canoe Journey Club, an instructor at Northwest Indian College and a mother to two little S'Klallam kids. She first thought of this project when pulling to Bella Bella in 2014 with the Port Gamble S'Klallam Canoe Family. The importance of this project was rejuvenated in 2015 when a student in her English 102 class had a difficult time finding books and interviews on the cultural significance of the canoe journey. She hopes to make available a free digital copy of the interviewees quoted in the book on this site, so that future students can experience the stories of those who participate in the journeys.
